Leadership is a particularly interesting topic.
Most of the leaders and business owners I work with really want to be better leaders.
They want to inspire the team of people around them.
They want to be able to lead with confidence.
They want the skills to be able to go into any situation and know they will get a good outcome.
A lot of leaders and business owners I work with also really feel like they have to completely overhaul and fundamentally change who they are to be exceptional leaders.
This is simply not true.
Everyone has the ability to be a great leader and you don't necessarily need the job title or status or to be in charge of a team of people to turn up every day and to lead with confidence and authenticity.
There are two areas I want to explore with you today that will allow you to dramatically improve your leadership skills.
1) Be Humble
People naturally gravitate to and respect leaders who are humble.
Be willing to admit when you don't know something. Be willing to ask for help when you need it.
What you'll find is that people around you will often jump at the chance to help you – that’s just the nature of being human. People like to help others.
Be humble. Be OK not having all the answers and admitting that you're learning new things everyday just like everyone around you and watch others respect for you grow!
2) Meet Everyone At A Personal Level
People who use their influence, status and power to force others to do what they want - aren't leaders, they're dictators.
If you want to lead and have people follow and respect you, then you need to meet everyone at a personal level.
Get to know them. What’s their favourite food / sport / thing to do on the weekend? What are the names of their partner or kids?
If you meet the people around you with openness, curiosity about who they are and their journey and show a deep interest about them - they will respect and follow you with the same curiosity you have shown to them.
Ultimately, your version of leadership comes down to whatever you want it to mean for you. You have the opportunity to turn up every day and to lead with confidence and authenticity.
Let me know how you go.
