How To Improve Staff Performance

Tomorrow I’m running a training for our Boardroom members on Building Staff Accountability. 

 

In this training we’ll be exploring 6 x strategies. 

 

To move staff away from Dependence and towards Autonomy. 

 

Today I want to share one of these core strategies. 

 

For improving staff performance. 

 

And building a high-performance culture. 

 

That leads to happier staff, increased business performance and a highly profitable consultancy. 

 

Today we’re talking about setting clear expectations with your staff. 

 

Most staff and performance issues arise because your staff aren’t clear on what is expected of them. 

 

Because you’re so busy as an owner.  

 

You’re often rushing the delegation and explanation process. 

 

Because you just want to get them actioning the task or the project. 

 

So you can move onto the next thing.  

 

But that’s a total sabotage and is causing more issues than you realise.  

 

When it comes to your staff and your team. 

 

And setting them up for success. 

 

I want you to adopt the mantra: 

 

“Slow is smooth - smooth is fast”. 

 

Take your time with them. 

 

Set them up properly. 

 

Map out your requirements, the milestones, the hours, the budget, the due dates etc. 

 

Make sure they completely understand what you’re asking from them. 

 

Before you move on.  

 

Now I want to teach you something here.  

 

That when I learnt it many years ago. 

 

Completely changed my success as a leader.  

 

Telling your staff to do things is one thing.  

 

Helping them understand and get clear is something completely different. 

 

As you’re explaining things to your staff - pause and ask them. 

 

“Can you please repeat that back to me so I know that you understand”. 

 

This simple question will change everything. 

 

If they repeat everything back to you clearly and concisely. 

 

Then they know exactly what they’re doing - and you can move on.  

 

But 9 times out of 10 - they won’t have understood everything and this question will highlight that. 

 

Then you can spend more time with them on the areas they aren’t clear on. 

 

Until they’re a 10 out of 10. 

 

Now this might seem like a lot of effort to you.  

 

But trust me - it’s so worth it.  

 

Because once your staff are clear. 

 

You can - with confidence - move onto the next thing knowing they’ll knock it out of the park.  

 

Try it for yourself.
