I hope you’re having an amazing day.
In my last couple of posts I’ve been talking a lot about strategy and strategic actions that you could be taking to grow your team and grow your business.
Today I want to talk to you about something slightly different. And that’s the importance of managing your energy.
You see, if you’re like most leaders and business owners in the engineering and construction industry at the moment, you’re super busy! There’s a fair bit of work on at the moment and everyone is scrambling and doing their best to deliver for their clients as well as generating new business and making hay while the sun shines - so to speak.
At the moment, there is a huge sense of overwhelm and a huge amount of busyness happening.
This period at the moment is ripe for burnout.
So today I want to talk to you about the importance of managing your day, managing your tasks and managing your energy.
Right now, there is a tendency to just be running hard. To not be taking breaks and to be working really, really big hours.
That’s not sustainable.
In order to give this period your best shot and to make the most of it and to ensure you come out the other side fully intact and not experiencing burnout or overwhelm - you need to be consciously managing your energy throughout the day.
Spend 5 to 10 minutes now looking at your week and looking at the tasks that you do and just think a little bit about each of those tasks and whether they raise your energy or drain your energy.
You then want to make sure that the day ahead of you is not full of tasks that drain your energy. You want a good mixture of tasks throughout the day. That’s what I mean about getting strategic about how you set your day up to win. You want your day to be a mixture of tasks that drain you (which you sometimes just have to do) and tasks that energise you and that you really enjoy doing.
Everyone is really busy at the moment and you’re no good to anyone if you’re tired and burnt out.
So make sure that you consciously invest effort into managing your energy throughout the day and you’ll find that you get to the end of your days (and your weeks) feeling way better about yourself. You’ll also find you have way more energy to spend time with the people that you love and you’ll feel like your business and your team is moving forward with confidence.
