The Hardest Decision Of My Life

One of the hardest decisions of my life was stepping into my coaching business full time.

Not because I was worried about failing or that it wouldn’t work out. It was because I was leaving behind that level of safety and security that I’d come to rely on for nearly 2 decades of my career prior.

I have a family, 2 x kids, a mortgage and I was honestly worried about letting them down.

When we’re faced with big decisions, our brain will always err on the side of caution because it’s designed to keep us safe.

But keeping us safe - also keeps us small.

And I didn’t want that either. I never want to go through life thinking about all the ‘maybes’ and ‘should haves’.

I want to lead and show my family, my clients and our incredible industry what’s possible when you pursue what you want.

Fast forward - I have a thriving business, I get to work with incredible clients every day and I get to help them shortcut the process and build and grow incredible businesses.

It was honestly one the of hardest but best decisions I’ve ever made.

(Side note) I often get asked by people thinking about starting their own consultancies and leaving behind their safe and secure corporate job, and if you’re thinking about it, I would recommend.

  • At least six months’ worth of savings behind you, whereby if you don’t make any money for the first six months it doesn’t matter .
  • A clear & simple business plan (1 pager is fine), one clear and specific ideal client who you really want with, and a whole lot of energy and enthusiasm!

Regardless of whether you’re a startup or doing $10M + per year - building a business isn’t hard, but it can be pretty hard going hard at times. There’s a pretty simple formula to follow if you know what you’re doing.

But the single biggest thing to understand is that it takes WAY longer than you think it will.

You have to have patience, be willing to try new and different things and to trust the process.

The single biggest thing that kills most businesses is not that there isn’t the work out there, it’s that you become impatient because you think it should’ve happened by now, or that it will happen way more quickly than you think.

Most businesses I work with just want to shortcut the process. They want to grow and follow a pathway, a process and not waste time making mistakes or hitting up against dead ends and roadblocks along the way.

It’s all possible.

Everything you want is on the other side of getting outside of your comfort and taking the required action.

You just need to be shown how.
