When I first started my business - I set out to work with as many clients as I could.
I wanted to help as many people as my weeks would allow, & I thought that by working with anyone & everyone - this was the quickest way to business success.
How wrong I was.
So off I went, working with and taking on any client that would work with me.
Years passed.
One day I looked up and I realised that I was super unhappy - running around trying to please and help everyone - but feeling empty inside.
I was doing great work - but at the cost of everything else.
I was having an impact - but if I was being honest, some of the clients I was working with weren’t right for me.
And so…
What I came to realise, is that in order to build a business that is truly successful to me (not anyone else… to me) - I can't work with everyone.
I fact, I don't want to work with everyone.
So I changed who I was working with.
Now I'm really selective about who I take on and who I don’t.
I only work with clients who meet really strict criteria, who are fun to work with and who are motivated & invested in the process as much as I am.
And business couldn't be better.
I'm having way more fun because I can really help the clients who I choose to work with & in turn, my clients are getting way better results & outcomes because they're in the right room for them and what their business needs.
So my question to you is - are you trying to be all things to all people and work with as many clients as you can? Are you playing in the generalist space?
And how is your business going as a result of this?
Are you having fun? Do you love turning up to work every day? Are you enjoying the work you're doing and the clients you and your team are working with? Are you making the revenue & the profit that you would like?
Or could you benefit from being more selective about the clients you work with and the projects you take on?
There’s a big difference (as I found out) between trying to work with everyone vs only working with a select few.
And it’s the difference between loving what you do every day vs feeling obliged to do what you do every day.
