Eagles are autonomous and hard working.
They take pride in everything that they do.
They’re always looking to improve, to learn new things and to grow - because they’re focused just as much as building their own personal brand and reputation as they are about helping your business grow.
They can be trusted and don’t need to be micromanaged - meaning that you don’t need to be present and the work still gets done to an incredibly high standard.
There’s a saying I learnt many years ago that’s always stuck with me - “the people you pay money to (your team & staff) are meant to make your life easier, not harder”.
So do the people on your team right now make your life easier (eagles) or harder (ducks)?
Now the recruitment space is challenging right now and I hear it all the time - “I just can’t find good people”.
But what I don’t want you doing is just hiring anyone or the first person that walks through the door because you need someone (anyone) to fill a delivery hole for you.
That never ends well.
If they’re a duck - you’ll spend all of your time trying to train them, get them up to speed, manage them and repeat yourself 100 times - wasting your time and theirs.
It’s like trying to force a square peg through a round hole.
I’d prefer you slow the recruitment process down until you find the right person.
Look for different ways to structure your team or hire more admin support so that your delivery team are focused purely on what they’re good at.
Or better yet, focus on building your Talent Ecosystem - this is a strategy we teach our Boardroom clients - and actually attract eagles into your business.
Focusing on only building a team of eagles around you allows you to truly elevate yourself to that next level in your business.
It allows to build a business that gives you the life, the freedom and the flexibility that you truly want.
