Hereβs what I've learnt at 40 π
On the weekend I cracked the big 4-0.
I had an incredible weekend in the mountains and at the beach with my family.
As I look back on the last 4 decades, here’s what I’ve learnt:
1) The days are short and the years are even shorter. Make sure you do sh!t you love. Life and time is precious - spend it working towards your dreams (not someone else’s).
2) Choose experiences over possessions.
At the end of the day, all of the ‘stuff’ you amass over a lifetime, pales in comparison to lived experiences and having fun with those you love.
As Kim and I and the kids get older - we’re choosing to spend our money on travel and adventure. We want to focus on creating memories that will last a lifetime.
3) Pay for speed.
Life’s short. Fact. If someone has the skills to help me achieve my goals faster, I’ll happily invest my money with them to help me get there.
If I can pay someone $30k or $60k to help me make $1M - then I will. If I can invest in someone to help me get the physique I want - then I will. Paying for speed helps me achieve more in less time. Think about it.
4) Slow down to go faster.
This one is still a massive work on for me. I’ve always prided myself on being able to go faster and faster - business, personal - just cram more stuff in, right?
I’ve come to realise that life has seasons. And sometimes you need to have a season of going slower to reset, rethink, reevaluate and strategise before speeding up again. Putting speed against the wrong strategy is counterproductive. Sometimes you need to slow down in order to then go faster.
5) Surround yourself with amazing people.
Your support network, friends, family and surrounding yourself with an incredible team is everything. They make everything easier, shoulder the load when you’re going through heavy stuff and give a different perspective when you get stuck.
To me anyway, community is everything. Surround yourself with the right people and the right support network and anything is possible.
So here’s to the next decade!! I’m honestly incredibly energised for what lies ahead and I can’t want to see what kind of magic we can make happen.
